Reflected scene in mirror appears to have z-axis depth...

To my surprise, while composing a shot of my car's side view mirror, the embedded proximity LED triangle had a different focus setting than the image in the mirror. I was expecting the entire mirror and proximity light to share the same focus. Aren't they on the same focus plane?

D1 = Camera distance to mirror
D2 = Distance to objects from mirror

Triangle Distance on Mirror = D1
Reflected Objects = D1 + D2

As JCS indicates, two different focal distances involved. D1 is the close focus distance to a close physical object the mirror and D2 is a distant focus of an aerial image of physical objects from afar plus the reflected distance from the mirror, D1 + D2.

Thanks guys. I would have thought the mirror would negate the distances/scene and make it a 2D image. GOD is great!

Imagine throwing a ball at a wall, it bounces off the wall and you catch it. How far did the ball go? A mirror bounces photons, and thus the "image" on a mirror is also 3D (provides stereoscopic depth).
