Reel

I mean it was great, did you want to elaborate on some of the shots and what you were shooting with. But again. Really great stuff. I wouldn't even know why you would need a reel.

Very nice indeed.
Loved the first 3 shots especially... and that car is bada$$. What camera were you shooting the car stuff on? I noticed you have 3 in your armoury.

Hey thanks. Much appreciated.
- All Mustangs outdoors was with the HVX200 in 720 24p - and a lot of grip support - mainly the tracking vehicle with adjustable ride control.
- All Motorcycle stuff was with the HVX and DVX (because it was lighter on long days)
- 90% of the vehicle studio shots were all shot with the DVX in ole standard DV (but with a million dollar light box)
- The father and Doctor dude in SD on the HVX (and some tungsten units)
- everything else with the DVX

Thanks. Right - yes... I don't know why I need a reel. Do you mean "you" as in me or "You" as in all camera guys in this forum in general?

These comments are much appreciated - I wish for and encourage more - good/bad short/long whatever.

Thanks!

looks great to me! you really know how to get the best out of those cameras, very impressive!

Hey Jonny H,
Thanks for the answers.
I am by no means an expert on the subject but you said you wanted more input (and 'good job' although encouraging doesn't really tell you that much) so here is something I thought of while looking at your reel again.
The length I think is good but the subject matter (to me) seems dominated by cars. Now although I love the footage, if it were my reel I might include just a little more variety to show your flexibility (the heli shots were good!)
Now, I suppose as a reel for a camera man the subject matter is secondary to the technique and finesse you display but keeping it slightly more varied might excite your audience more...
Just my thoughts.

well... interesting point Sonic. I've been fighting with myself to even include the few "interview" shots that are in there as is. I feel that the more wide variety of shots could dilute my specialty (which is automotive). And I live in an auto town sort of. So I don't want to seem Jack of all trades but not good at one thing kind of thing. But right on the other side, what if some dude needs me to shoot an interview - don't want to pass up that job either.

Thanks MJ, Kamikaze and the rest. Do you see a style? Can you describe it? Hope i'm not asking for too much.

thanks again everyone. just trying to find my place in this world.

Though "Good job" may not tell you much, it means a lot on these boards. Some people excel over others and that is just how it is. It's not the equipment, it's the person using the tools. RED one in the wrong hands isn't going to look very pretty. That being said I think you have a very strong eye for corporate work. The footage you showcase on vehicles is amazing, it showcases your talent and eye for good composition and utilization of well placed shots throughout the reel. Your reel says "Cameraman" so I'm looking at your shots and composition, I'm not thinking "Geez he has a lot of cars on here, I wouldn't mind seeing some macro shots of flowers on here" I mean c'mon. A good cameraman or DP could put those shots to anything, not just cars, and we know this. That being said, once again, you did a very GOOD JOB :)

Just to clarify, by mentioning that 'good job' (or as in my first post 'very nice indeed') doesn't tell you much, I wasn't raining on anybody's parade. Rather, I wanted to give Jonnyh something to chew on.
Peace.

great.

great.

Hey, just wanted to clarify what I meant earlier. You shouldn't even need a demo reel because you are very talented. I'm surprised that you took the time to make one because after watching the demo, I would except you to be working full time being a cameraman.

Peace, best of luck.

my dream is to be DP for BMW/AUDI/PORSCHE commercials. cars are my life, and you are very fortunate my friend.
