redundent.... redundent

Come on mang.

Haven't we all at one time or another asked a stupid question? Okay, I never did; but damn it, I was here 2 months prior to owning the camera in the first place. In fact, my first stupid question to Jarred was "XL1 or DVX".

We don't have to answer any questions if we don't want; let someone else do it if you are tired of the same old question. And yes; I do believe people are more active 'making' films than used; it was a long winter.

Let's not turn away the newbies; they are just as hungry for knowledge as the rest of us; I still send Barry Green weekly 'dumb ass questions'.

I hope the "Platinum Members" don't get too jaded. I hope they realize that there are people out there that they have had a significant positive influence on.

you said it CM.

give new members a break. the same questions will always be asked. live with it.

Overland is right: " if you don't like people asking questions, please just ignore them or leave. Don't bring this incredible site down with your disenchantment."

I agree with John. New people=new blood. A sight like this needs new people to make it fresh. The new feature of being able to read a couple sentences before even opening a thread makes it easy to pass on a thread if it's redundant to you. To be honest, I hung around awhile before posting, as do most people, and reading the same 5-10 old school posters got a little boring too. I think everyone would admit that the manual that came with the camera leaves a little to be desired. Then, if you are just learning a new NLE, whether it be FCP, Vegas, or whatever you have, the choices can definitely be daunting. Also, there have been lots of posts by regulars that are not always of interest to everyone, and are totally off topic. "I'm having a bad day", "My girlfriends a *****", etc. These are all ok and fun sometimes too. An internet discussion group is a community, and like all communities, they grow and change. There is plenty here for everyone, new and old alike. Join in if you want, just read if you want, if you don't like what you see, come back later, or don't come back at all. Your choice. Also, if you get too bored, click on the little X in the corner, disconnect, and go out and shoot something, or do some editing. Have fun.

What you're seeing is some of the natural evolution of an online community--it happens everywhere. Technically we could make users wait 30 days (or whatever) to post, but that would just piss people off. I'd like to see the board widen it's content a bit--that would be nice for those of us that have seen the 50th version of "what mattebox should I buy?"

Stuff I'd like to see:

Expanded DVXfest
More product reviews
Interviews
Tutorials
DVD Exchange
Hudson's shot-by-shot scene breakdowns

I'm sort of on the fence as far as FAQs go. A lot of people won't bother to read them and they take a lot of work to write and maintain. A search will turn up the latest info and by nature, FAQs are pretty general. Still, if any of you want to write some FAQs, I'd be more than happy to help edit and make a home for them.

So Long and Thanks for all the Fish!

So Long and Thanks for all the Fish!

One of your members recommended that I join dvxuser because it was a true professional community and I was to become the proud owner of a couple of bouncing new DVX100As to add to my toolset.

So I am a "new" member of this particular online community. I haven't asked any questions, and really haven't been on this forum since joining in January until a few weeks ago when my gear started showing up.

I've even made a post or two, trying to answer non dvx related questions.

The idea expressed that new member=industry moron or that any question no matter how simple or number of times asked is somehow not worthy of a proper answer, not some self-agrandizing comment. It speaks more about the character of the commenter than anything else.

Is this really the general attitude of many of this forum's members?

Then maybe what I should add is..

Bye!

Barry, Which mattebox should I buy?

I am not jaded. I do ask stupid questions.
I also try to chip in reasonable responses when I can. I'm pretty new here, too.
But, I started reading this site in 2003 and lost my old login last year... so I'm stuck with this one.
Here's to the newbie. here. here.

I think that the negative approach is too much like the ones in the biz that do think they gods gift to whomever; elitist almost. I think part of the charm of this community is that we do have professionals participating; that they do take the time to answer questions and give instruction.

"Whats that rattle?" Hey, it's like the C-47's; just tell the dude what it is and quit acting like your 'Superior' knowledge is insulted. Or, don't answer it; move on.

If we start adopting a negative spin on newcomers; it'll just bring upon the demise. Now, serious, about that Kerning issue...

I better come clean. Yes, of course I've asked dumbass questions here. But mostly, I just post dumbass remarks, including the ones above. I don't really feel that way. I think it's really great that people can come to this site and feel comfortable and welcome enough to ask questions right away, and get involved. Rarely have I seen *any* member be anything but polite and gracious. It's also rare to see any question go unanswered within 24 hours.

I would rather see anyone who gives a new questioner any type of (genuinely) snide ass reply the boot for 30 days....at least. There really is no sense in such attitute, and points to an extreme lack of professionalism no matter what they do for a living....even if its Steven Spielburgs personal assistant (though its often MUCH less that makes them think they are really something!). Barry Green once again serves as the model.....the man is as truly professional as they come....yet you will never see any negativity from him in a reply no matter how basic or redundant the question may be. I for one think there is less of a place here for unnessarily negative attitudes towards new members that there is for poitical threads in the cafe, and it should not be tolerated by other members or moderators.

I fit into this category. I've never asked any dumbass questions (mainly because I'm a headstrong *LEO* and like to find the answers on my own via the search feature or google) but I have made some dumbass remarks and statements that didn't go over too well. Been trying to avoid that lately.

Ok, enough coming clean. I like it all. I like the dumbass questions and the smartass answers. Thats what makes it a great community. There's some people you kind of expect it from, you know? Like, oh man, I can't wait to see that Pookie guys reaction to that home made plumbers pipe "Steadicam". Or the answers to the clunk question, which are always amusing. I've never seen any real slamming and negativity like you see on most sites. And as far as Barry Green and John H. Right up there with the Pope... Barry just gave a great response to a question from me earlier. So don't no one change. Be yourselfs, don't be TOO mean, have fun, and for Gods sake, no group hugs.

ironic. I get 4 pages of replies from a rant...

and 1 reply for a finished piece of work in the screen grabs area...

maybe I should post all my stuff here instead. and just label it as a rant

I am no longer in such a bad mood... but i still stand by my original post...
