I believe the Red one's that were sold off, for the most part, were the traded in red ones from the last upgrade program two years ago. To expect them to turn around that many scarlets, with their rigid QC checks, I doubt they would be available as well as considering I doubt they would release dragon, have a scarlet trade in, and a deal on scarlets all within a short period of time... I know red bites off more than they can chew at times but that would just be pure insanity.
Now who knows as anything can change I just wouldn't plan on a scarlet price drop like what happened with the red one(a six year old camera) to happen with scarlets(a year old camera). though wouldn't matter to me either way as I'm not looking to profit on my resale as I plan to keep it, trade in, whatever, but not expecting to turn around and sell it, not my path but fair enough if it's yours.
We might not see dragon for another 5 months, early adopter's/epic-m owners get first crack, then all owners, scarlet trade in program...(no details as of yet), and the sale of all new dragon camera's to the public ready to go... so it could be next winter when scarlets are finally being traded in and then a good year or more after that before they are all put on the battle tested sales. People claim scarlet is not as cost effective comparatively to epic because they want an epic but can't afford it, fair enough, but the reality of manufacturing is a whole other thing, I still feel no matter how you look at it they are a great deal(before the price drop or BT deal), heck most camera's are these days just depends on your point of view and perspective, and what you are and are not willing to pay for!
Have a good one! keep fighting the good fights, and laughing at the pointless ones!
edit: so I forgot that they are going to be selling new dragon epics while they do the sensor upgrade on current epics to avoid a bottleneck, no mention of if the scarlet trade in will also coincide or take place after but I guess my timeline could be moved up a bit but still it all hinges on when dragon is ready to ship... In my opinion, doesn't make sense to drop scarlet price before dragon hits, if it will ever happen. then again the red one was very different some had upgraded sensors, some did not, the BT one's only had MX so perhaps the time was taken to upgrade, and perhaps sell off remaing stock at old prices?... or perhaps I'm way off on all accounts...
here are links to jarred mentioning the scarlet trade in and dragon in general...
