RedRockmicro Shim Kit??

I have the DSLR cinema bundle from Redrock. I want to get a z-finder, but because the follow focus knob is too big to fit between the cheese plate and rods, the whole rig is front heavy with the camera, follow focus and matte box all resting at the front of the cheesplate (insanely front heavy). I'm interested in buying the shim kit, to raise the height of the rods, which will in turn allow me to slide the entire rig further back on the cheese plate, making it more balanced and making the LCD screen more accessible for a z-finder.

Has anyone used the shim kit? Does it increase the height enough to fit your fingers between the rods and the cheeseplate to adjust the knobs. Are the different sized shims stackable to create an even bigger gap?

The shim kit should raise your rods enough... but you might find it a little difficult to get your hands between the cheeseplate and the bottom of the FF to loosen the adjuster knob. It's definitely doable though. The other option would be to get some counter balance weights to hang off the back.

Adding counterweight is an option, but my goal is to keep the weight down, so I my tripod head (Manfrotto 503) can handle some heavier lenses and other accessories like an external monitor. I'll take a chance. Thanks for the input.
