Ok im suffering from idunnos syndrome.

Im working with a hvx on a redrock and I was about to order a RR shoulder but Im not sure if I should.

I don't do any hand held , mostly on sticks. I feel so limited by it though.

Should I hold out and go for a stedicam?

Do you have any idea how much a steadicam capable of holding a HVX with rails and Redrock adapter would cost you?

In the thousands my friend.

The shouldermount is a good first step towards that IMHO. It's definitely a lot cheaper and will get you used to working off of sticks.

Steadicam is a big investment in your sled, vest, arm, training, etc. Don't hold out. Pull the triggerw

Be careful with your DIY Steadicam... typically those are for smaller handicams, but things like the Glidecame 4000 will work with the HVX alone.

Using with 35mm adapters is a whole other ballgame.

Consider this, how are you going to pull focus using the M2 on your Steadicam? Are you going to use a wireless FF? If so, how is the focus puller going to see the image. So you need a wireless transmitter and receiver too? See what I mean.

Using DOFA with Steadicam not only requires the Steadicam, but a wireless FF, video transmitters, monitors for directors/focus-puller, as well as training and everything else. Check out a DIY or the GL4000 first. Move up from there.

I have a full steadicam rig and I still do shoulder stuff. Sometimes a slightly wobbly shoulder shot is more appropriate than a super smooth steadishot.

For the money a good shoulder mount is more useful than a cheap steadicam knockoff.

Just for the record, you dont *need* a wireless monitor, a good focus puller can pull without a monitor, they just use lensmarks and good judgment. I have a video transmitter system anyway, but its for the director. Theres nothing more annoying than having the director shuffling around behind you trying to see the steadicam monitor.

If you want a good video transmitter, Boxx do a nice HD one.
