Hey guys we just talked to Redrock and did a vidcast from their NAB booth the video is available at FreshDV.com it shows their MatteBox remoteFF how its setup ets, and....their new FLIP solution for the M2 VERY COOL!!!!! Also interviewed ReelStream on the Hydra although that clip won't be up until early next week. Good times for Panasonic users!!!!

PODCAST HERE

It begins. Just a 1/4 Stop of light too? It's about time. Though I thought Cinevate/Brevis was doin it first?

Dennis had mentioned the flip awhile back, but with all the other developments going on, probably not the highest on the priority list.

This microX kinda came out of nowhere, I haven't heard much about it until Brian announced it's NAB debut. Guess it news was overshadowed by the long anticipated micro mattebox and wireless follow focus.

Only 1/4 stop of light loss is great, but I've been asking myself even if I could shoot with an upright image on my hvx lcd/viewfinder, would I want to? Focus is so critical with the adapters, and the hvx viewfinder is inadequate. Not that people haven't had their gripes with the current line of hd external monitors.... (i'm personally fine w/ them)

Then again, who's to say that you wont get the flip and still use an external. At least you circumnavigate the post flip. But, then you gotta weigh between the value of losing 1/4 stop light loss or having a recorded upright image.

Nevertheless, its great to have the option! Redrock is kickin butt. Now excuse me while I head over to Cinevate's site and assemble a pep-rally. :)

I'd buy the brevis today if it had flip. I want the thing to be totally professional...not to be asked why the hell my monitor is upside down. That's kinda bogus.

Yes, our flip module has been in the works for about 5 months. Actually, we're taking care of final production details on the Cinevate flip module ... second version. The first prototype (FS mirrors based) was scrapped in favour of a version that we feel is much more robust, has perfect alignment (very important), no dust issues, with phase coated surfaces, etc, etc. It is designed to work with any adapter that can accept 72mm threads...and will work of course with any existing Brevis units.

The flip project has been slow going mostly as we've focussed on not only getting caught up with orders (down to a 5-10 day lead time now) and development of our new imagining element line. Initial users of our CF1L imaging elements for larger cameras are pretty thrilled with that R&D effort. At this point we can offer virtually vignette free, full SLR frame performance on pretty much any lens, used on any video camera :-)

Hi Guys

At the airport here leaving NAB. Redrock won the TV Technology Star award, for which we are very proud.

One other thing on microX (the 'flip module') - it was really important for us to make sure it was available as an add-on accessory for existing M2 adapters, so everyone who has an M2 will have the option to add this when it ships. It is a really great piece of gear and we are excited to bring it to market.

For those who still want/need an on-camera monitor for critical focus, Ikan was showing their new V8000 on-camera HD monitor. I was really impressed by it. Same resolution as the Marshall HD, component in/out, nice thin form factor like a panasonic, but only $750 street. Wow - I am placing my order for it this week!

Cheers

Brian

Hey Brian,

Glad to see you guys charging forward. Speaking OF charging: how soon will we know a locked price?

whats bogus is trying to get by with a 35mm adapter, then blaming the adapter for having the image flipped, then calling it "bogus"

just my $0.02

im glad redrock, cinevate, and everybody takes us into consideration and brings great products to the market

What do you mean by tring to get by with a 35mm adapter? You make it sound like a half assed solution.

I simply felt having to rewire the on cam LCD or flip the monitor is an unprofessional looking solution. What I didn't say is that it was unprofessional looking to people who fund the kind of films i work on.

No offense to the adapters....I like the M2 and the Brevis very much.

Yeah their flip solution did not lose hardly ANY light either....pretty impressive!
It seems there has been some confusion on this...Brian has stated in this forum thread that it's actually 1/2 stop of light loss, not 1/4. Which is still quite respectable, I just thought it should be noted accurately here.

he aint joking about the CF1L. Brevis is really amazing now. I'm shooting with 70-210mm & 200mm primes without problem. I've shot with M2 and Brevis, and I have to say the investment with Brevis was well spent cash. Until I get RED 1, it's Brevis as standard equipment on the HVX.

It'd be nice to see more from the Brevis and the new combo, but the M2 and SGpro pretty much have been achieving this already.

That's really good to hear. Been testing my Brevis with CF1, and the light+sharpness falloff on outer edges is noticeable. I was hoping there'd be a solution soon, so this is good news. It's a great unit already, I'm excited to see it improving.

Well, they used to be a half assed solution - the tech has come a long way.
(dont get me wrong, i have been saving for my brevis, and am about to purchase- and im glad i did as they have gotten MUCH better )

What I meant was the 35mm adapters are sort of a "hack" to bring the 35mm "LOOK" and shallow DOF to a camera that wasnt really "meant" to do that.

When i said trying to get by, i meant -vs- using a camera that was made/equiped for lense changing etc (yes using the HVX with a 35mm adapter is saving BIG $$ over purchasing/renting something else)

I wast trying to start anything by what i said, your comment just caught me the wrong way. Sorry if i offended ya.

Hey Look....no worries, man; no apologies required. I've more or less decided on the Brevis myself. All the 35 adapters are somewhat of a hack, I suppose.

I just wanted it flipped so it was less of a hack...

Cheers!
