Redrock Micro Price Increase

I was looking as some Redrock support gear this weekend on their site... came back Monday and noticed a 20-35% increase on almost all their products... NAB related??

Anyways - B&H stocks some of Redrock's gear and at right now it's at Sunday's prices. In fact, I just finished my order. Just a heads up if anyone cared.

There should be plenty of this stuff used in the marketplace, on ebay or on other forums.

I personally don't recommend buying any of their gear new after I got burned last January (09) buying a DSLR "bundle" which had the obsolete V1 follow focus, and the V2 follow focus came out around the same time.

Not to mention that I asked for BLACK trim screws as an option on their website (I wouldn't complain if I didn't have the option) AND they never rectified it after I sent several emails.

Their mattebox is a nice product for the money, but I don't think I'd buy anything else from them ever again if I was in the market.

that is outrages.
why the hell should I pay more for something that has been on the market for 2 years(shoulder-mount).
this is clearly called "milking customer"

i used to love "Redrock"

yes, Dan is right. getting off of the ebay/2nd-hand would be wise choice.

Usually companies do a 20-30% DISCOUNT during tradeshows, at least for those who attended....heh maybe they raised the prices so after your NAB discount the price is the same?

They have to make as much$$$ as they can before that new panny4/3rd microcam puts a serious cut in their bizNA$$

have they ever thought that nobody would realize that?
what a sneaky way!

yeah most companies offer discount for old-items in their catalog. this jacked-up price policy is something new..

i went on a rant about how bad redrock customer service is a few months ago. agreed about having to make up some extra cash before the new cameras drop, the 35mm adapter is soon to become unnecessary.

Well I know I will no longer be recommending RedRock Micro until this is resolved. Either build it yourself or if that's not good enough buy from Zactuo...their stuff is expensive but it is incredibly high quality.

for what it's worth, I've had to contact RR customer service 2 times these last 2 years (last time was 5 months ago) and they've always been prompt to answer and deliver the goods. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've been quite satisfied with customer service.

It could be that they're adjusting their prices for sustainability? Kit like this exciting new wireless follow-focus and their very comprehensive matte box are expensive to develop.

If you're just turning out low-margin kit and hoping for sheer sales volume, a growing company will have little set aside to support the necessary R&D to bring these products to market.

I'm just a distributor, but know what it's like to have to find the line between keeping the doors open and being the least expensive option out there.

Was just looking at their prices, and they seem the same to me... Which products was the OP talking about? One of the items I bought last month is cheaper now, by about 30%, and others that I spot-checked looked the same...

I can say their Mattebox went from $725 to $995 cause I've been eying one up for awhile.

On the good side, it's still a good price for their quality. On the bad side, WTH!!!! Either keep it the same price or come out with something better at a higher price.

Glad I got the mattebox and V2 followfocus when I did. I will say that I also ordered a universal Baseplate from Zacuto at the same time and MAN! the difference in customer service and product quality is mind blowing. RRM will never see another dime from me, Zacuto is worth the difference in price.

Yikes. Just looked up one of my old orders - on 4/15/08 (almost exactly two years ago) I got the Shoulder Mount kit for $350, and it included 18" rods and a micromount, and the 15mm Deluxe Matte box bundle was just $695.

That may have been because I was on the waiting list for both items though...

I was looking at the DSLR and M2 items earlier - they seem to have stayed the same price.

this happened over-night.
out of blue they jack-upped the prices of the old items in their catalog. I'm sure they will come with an explanation after all these complaints.

All the DSLR Bundles increased in price.

In one day the Ultraport went from 440 to 525.
The Event DSLR went from 640 to 850.
Captain Stubling went from 975 to 1152.
And so on and so on. Individual parts went up too...

Again, B&H and Adorama both have Sunday's pricing. Who knows for how much longer? This was just a heads up.

If Redrock feels their product is worth the extra dinero - good for them, bad for us. But price being equal (or close to) I'll go with Zacuto or Cinevate or... just so happened that this time Redrock made the most sense.

I would also think that these are adjustments to inflation. It's bad marketing not to state that openly.
