RedRock Mattebox videos

Yeah, my one is apparently being sent between the 16th and the 21st. I got a bare F900 that needs a mattebox on the 26th so I hope they send it on the 16th.... :-D

Andrew said they were going to start sending out the reservation holder orders on the 16th which isnt too long away now... Could even have it in hand this time next week if they dont delay again...

Ha! Talking about cheap indian knockoffs?

That Redrock looks like an cheap Arri MB20 knockoff.
As far as I can see almost a 1:1 copy.

LOL It's really close, isn't it. The rotating stages look like they might be a little different but it's tough to see in just that one picture. But MAN it's a lot less expensive. If the construction is good, this looks like a heck of a deal. I can't wait until CineCity comes out with their $200 version :D

Yeah, the price is tempting, but I have my hands on a nice Chrosziel in the moment.

Wait and see..

The Red Rock matte box looks to be an amazing value, but I'm hoping I can use my Chrosziel with the new Zacuto swing away adapter. Just need to see what Chrosziel offers for a step down donut to work with 52-72mm Nikon lenses.

Of course, for what the Zacuto piece and whatever Chrosziel step down adapter/s cost, it would probably be as much or more than the Red Rock matte box. I wonder what the widest lens is that can be used? I would need the matte box to be able to work with Fujinon 85mm and 100mm ENG zoom lenses
also--not sure they have lens rings for those sizes.

Holy sh!#-balls! That thing is huge! I had no idea it was that f-ing huge!!!... Sorry, I've been using a mattebox I built out of old ADT yard signs on a second hand VX2100. I can't believe I'll have this damned giant mattebox strapped to a brand flippin' new DVX in a few weeks!!!
:2vrolijk_08:

...so can I assume there's no way to use my Cokin P series filters in this beast?

(apologies again for the excited profanities- these will be the first serious tools I've owned)

Peace,
S-

Yeah the RR MB is huge. That's actually one of my concerns about it, just from a visual standpoint...is it going to look freakish, especially with flags, on the front of my HVX/LEX/RR FF/Nikon EDs? Pics to follow after I get mine, along with the filter set, presumably in a week or so...

I figure I'll love it, actually : )

Some guy on the redrock forum has a huge cooke telephoto with a 140mm OD and that fits, so im pretty sure your ENG leness will...

I'm still trying to figure if I should invest in their 4x5.65" filters set ($500) or save money and go with something cheaper like 4x4 Cavision filters($200 - $250).

I'll have to decide soon enough if I want them to combine the filters with my order. Decision - decision....

Did some of you ordered their filters?

Is that price you quote for cavision filters per filter or for the set of three?

Look in the for sale section, someone is selling some 4x4 formatt filters very cheap. I just got a blue grad for $50

Wow, 140mm! That IS a big matte box. My Chrosziel matte boxes are 110mm.
At least there shouldn't be any vignetting issues with a 4.5mm ENG wide angle,
but since most of the cameras being used will be palmcorders, I think it's funny
that Red Rock opted to copy an Arri cine matte box.

Im sticking mine on an F900, which isnt really a palmcorder, but its nice to know you can upgrade your arse off and not need a new mattebox.

That cavision set seems pretty nice. Where can you buy it from?

Adorama: http://www.adorama.com/CIFTG4X4SET.html
But I think I'll buy directly from them (if it's possible) since I'm in Canada.

Fake edit : I just noticed that Adorama mentions 3mm thick glass filters as opposed to 4mm on Cavision's web site. Maybe it's a typo...
