RedRock livelens MFT, BUT none for F3 (???)

Yes, RedRock is selling their EOS to 4/3 adapter starting today!

Very slick design, small and practical. BUT, while reading on AF100 forum, they have no short term plans for Sony F3 camera(???)...
I really don't get this company. I wish Mr. Valente would post his official response on this board and explain the reasoning why no adapter for F3? not enough interest? I doubt it!...
We are all waiting since last winter for the first company to man up and start selling EOS adapter for our camera. None came up so far. All these prototypes and pre production models start to be a joke (if not already)...
How come RedRock can design and produce this adapter for 4/3 and not for F3?
Answer?
Somebody?

I don't think any executive from RedRock Micro is going to come here and explain their business decision. They certainly or rarely don't post on their own forum.

I suspect it is a combination of things. First and foremost they have too many uncompleted products that they have been touting for over a year. Second, RedRock caters largely to the DSLR and the bottom end of the prosumer/indie crowd. The F3 crowd is a bit more upscale than their target market... Just a guess.

AF100 market is probably 10x bigger than F3 market, for one thing -- it costs 1/3 as much, therefore will likely sell in much higher quantities. Second, MTF has already shown a prototype of a comparable product for the F3, so Redrock may not be in such a rush because MTF already has the lead.

I spoke with Brian about F3 adapter. Barry pretty much says it all. Ultimately I dont know what RedRock is planning and really cannot share entirety of discussion. But as of now, I would look to MTF as being first to market.

Not only are there WAY more AF100's than F3's out there, but how many F3 owners want to shoot EOS glass necessarily? When you factor in all that that, the potential market is really small and the return on the investment is low... if even ever returned. Gotta love RedRock's price though, and look at that form factor - beautiful work of art!

I still don't get the reasoning of RedRock.
They can easily convert the 4/3 version to F3 since it's only aperture control unit, not focus, etc... And their version is a bit different and simpler than MTF (prototype) that btw I would never buy in the form it is now (that "box" is hideous! It's huge. It looks like a USSR era product). What do you do with it? We already have so much stuff mounted on f3, as it is. I rather continue shooting with Nikon glass than get mtf EOS system in a form it is now. As far as statement that there is no demand for EOS glass on f3, why then Birger is producing and selling (how long already?) their EOS red kit???
As far as RedRock catering to "DSLR only" market, I am not sure if Mr. Valente would agree with it. they are trying hard to play with "big boys". Don't you think? The decision not to have a f3 adapter at the same time as a f100, looks like fiasco they had with EVF... Anybody remembers that? Too bad... I guesses still have to wait for Birger... And that might not come at all...

They probably will come out with F3 version once they get some sales on 4/3 mount. Hey I wonder if you can just buy 4/3 mount to Sony F3 mount.

Steve, did you see my post on F3 & F65 at CSC meeting on Tuesday? I know you are in Toronto area incase you are interested to come by.

Yeah, I have seen it but avoid meets like that for a simple reason that I can't see the benefit since there is usually so many "experts" and "professionals" that you can't even get close to the gear let alone try it. If interested in particular hardware, I book my own time with the company that have it ( demo or something, they are always willing to accommodate...) or I just go down the street to Joe Sutherland and play with his gear since he always gets the newest and the latest (you read my diddy about pix240?)

Back to topic: just got the answer from RedRock on FB. No plans for Sony at all. Go figure...

Well I will already be at Videoscope to pickup my F3, so I figure why not shmooze and hear what the factory engineer has to say about either F3/F65.

I still can't believe it's only $450, if they made for F3 they would definitely sell even if the cost was $1000 to $1200 - especially compared to MTF mega-box.

Re: Pix240, that is sweet and I think better option than aja ki pro mini.

If you want to see my F3 set up, shoot me a pm and we can hook up once you get your camera. I am in Riverdale...

Ho about I'll make a little semi permanent M4/3 to F3 adapter? I promise no play between M43 and F3:happy:

Jacek,
I would buy that!
On the other note, I will be calling you in next couple of weeks regarding your Nikon G adapter... It is still on top of my list. As soon as I get a clear date on pix240, next is a call to Optitek. We can talk about this RedRock venture as well...

"Please note The LiveLens MFT powers the aperture control portion of EF Lenses. Additional lens features that require power may not be supported."
It seems that none of those adapter are able to "trigger" the IS , which is for me the main reason I want an EF adapter for my F3 shoulder work

Take a look here http://www.filippochiesa.eu/?p=616
It's a prototype (thanks to the D.o.P. Gerardo Fornari for the great idea and the photos).
The final release will be all black anodized best quality aluminium.
I think this is a great idea and combination, because if you own a Red Rock Live Lens the adapter will be cheaper.

Still don't get it.
What do I need to have?
Livelens or Livelens MFT (4/3 mount)?
What RedRock item will work with your adapter?
How much for the adapter?
When can we order this?
Another "shipping in few months" thing?
I need something now.
Please PM me all details directly as I am ready to order.
Ciao,
Steven

Hi Steven,

I don't produce this great adapter, I'm a tester.
The adapter will be ready to ship in two weeks.
You can contact Andrea Falcucci from www.smartsystem.it at the following address info@smartsystem.it or at Live Support Chat (08:30 am - 12:30 am - 14:30 pm - 18:30 pm Italian time).
Andrea is a very good guy and will be glad to answer all your question (price, details, etc...).
You gotta buy the M2/M3 Live Lens from Red Rock http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalog/LiveLens-active-lens-mount-for-Canon-EF-lenses
A lot of people own this kind of adapter, I bought mine from B&H http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...ro_8_041_0001_LiveLens_Active_Lens_Mount.html

Cheers,

Filippo
