redrock live lens mount timing

does anyone have any info about the release date timing for the redrock live lens mount for canon lenses?

Hi smelni - we should probably jump in here - The Redrock LiveLens mft mechanical lens mount is complete and the EF controller feature set we showed at NAB is complete as well. We are waiting for some final specs from the mft group (Olympus really) to add a few features people requested. Won't affect the price, but has slowed down our anticipated released date. Once we get the information we need from Olympus (next week hopefully) we can give a more solid update.

Cheers

Brian

Without asking you to commit to final product specs, what were some of the additional features requested?

Power through the mount would be an excellent modification. The unit I used at NAB required an external 9V power supply. It was workable, but not nearly as nice as a self-powered mount would be. Iris through the camera would be fantastic. I think people would probably accept it as-is with the +/- buttons because it at least provides true lens iris control, but if it could be controlled through the camera then that's just icing on the cake.

That has never been discussed before; the mount's purpose in life is to provide aperture control. It would be nice if it could have it, but unless Brian says otherwise, I think that's probably outside the scope of what this product is intended to do.

I would think that once you sent power to the lens, it would power all of it's functions. no?

Hi everyone

as mentioned above, we are really looking at power via the mount and camera control of aperture. If we can get more stuff in without undue delay and increasing price, we're certainly open to doing that too.

@editman that is correct we have no plans for a lens-driven focuser. We have the microRemote which we think is the right approach, and more universal.

@marlontorres we've already mentioned pricing is less than $500

thx

Hey Brian,

If there is power going to the lens, wouldn't it automatically power the image stabilization as well?

thanks,
Colin

Off topic, I know, but I was wondering when we can expect the wireless remote follow focus and any idea as to the price point?

Hey Brian,

Are you guys working on one for the FS-100 too? I might buy both, since the "other" company is taking such a long time. Thanks for the prompt replies.

Hi everyone

@Colin - we can hope :) once we get some needed details from the mft forum we'll know for sure. If it comes for free or little effort, we'll include it.

@Paul - it's off topic so let's stick to the mft mount here. Briefly we are looking to start shipping mid-month. Pricing is depending on the options you select, but in general a setup (without motors/cable options) for fingerwheel is ~$700. A wireless handheld setup starts $1490.

For future discussions on the microRemote please visit our facebook page facebook.com/redrockmicropage , twitter @redrockmicro, or our newsletter from our home page.

for future questions on the microRemote

@vcfilms - not commenting on future stuff at the moment - focused on releasing current products :)

Thanks everyone

Brian

Having been shooting for over 30 years, firstly on film and then on many flavours of video, I can honestly say ( except for heli shoots ) that I have never felt the need for image stabilisation.

From various postings in this thread, it seems to be a big deal for some people. My camera is either on the tripod, or hand held at the wide end of the lens, rarely hand held at the long end. if it is I'm not sure IS would help.

What are people using IS for ?

IS helps significantly hand holding anything more than 50mm.
