Redrock Follow Focus and Mattebox -- Compatible with F3?

Hey everyone,

I've been a fan of these forums for a long time, but this is my first post. :)

I'm working on a short film that's scheduled to shoot in a couple of months, and we're going to be shooting on the F3 at 10-bit 4:2:2 into the Aja Ki Pro Mini. We've already figured out our post workflow and data management, but at the moment we're trying to figure out how exactly we're going to build up the rig.

We're shooting on Zeiss Compact Primes, and we're trying to find a simple matte box and follow focus system for the F3. I've been interested in the Redrock products, because they seem to provide functionality while keeping the size of the rig from getting too cumbersome.

I've been browsing BorrowLenses.com seeing if there's anything I might be able to pick up in person from one of their Bay Area locations, and I noticed this: http://www.borrowlenses.com/product/redrock_cinema

Now, I know it specifies that it's for DSLR's, but what I'd like to know is, what is it about this rig that wouldn't work for an F3? I'm assuming the support should be beefier (especially if I'm attaching the Ki Pro), but everything else it seems like I'd be able to use on the F3. Am I wrong in this assumption?

Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

If you want it to be "not too cumbersome" stay away from Redrock matte box... That thing is HUGE! On the other hand, I can recommend Genus line of matte boxes... Far less bulky and perfect match for the lenses you will be using. I had mine since ex1 days, and it's served great so far... I pair my matte box with Zacuto base plate in a relatively small package. If you don't use large front diameter lenses on F3, this is the winning combo!
Good luck on your project...

Hey, thanks for the response! I'll have to look into the Genus matte boxes. Just to clarify though, I WOULD be able to use most of the stuff in that "cinema bundle" if I had a different baseplate for the F3, correct?

Ben,

Being that the F3 is a much larger camera then the DSLR, it would require a few tweaking pieces, but the general idea is all the same. Here's an F3 rigged out with what would be the equivalent to the DSLR Cinema Bundle, but for the F3.

The microMatteBox is a standard sized studio matte box, and comes equipped as such. With a swing away arm, expandable filter trays, and 4x4, 4x5.65, and 5.65 square filter support; it all depends on your production needs.

Feel free to PM or email me if you want some additional information or a hand rigging up a bundle for your F3.

Cheers,
