Redrock Demo/walk-through

Brian Valente (of Redrock) met with an M2 owner today to help walk him through the set-up and invited others to come... so I did. I should be getting my M2 this week, so I was thrilled to have a chance to go over the set-up in detail.

Needless to say, I was really impressed with everything. I had been slightly dreading the learning curve, but having Brian take us through it (both in person and on the DVD he gave us) has completely aleviated my dread.

We tested a lot of different lenses -- primes and zooms, from 24mm-200mm --- and the results were amazing. Once the M2 is properly set-up, you really do get edge-to-edge sharpness. And I was amazed by how little light seemed to be lost.

The other thing that impresses me is the build quality, and just how much thought has gone into the unit --- in every minute detail. This is a quality product!

Finally, I can't say enough for Brian. Has anyone ever gotten customer service like this --- having people over to give them this kind of hands-on training? I'm not saying that this is part of the general service agreement with Redrock, but it's pretty impressive, even if it's a one-time thing. I can't wait to get mine! I intend to wear my M2 hat with pride.

I've had my M2 for about 6 weeks now. I started using it with my DVX and then the HVX arrived and I've been using it with that. I haven't met Brian in person, but I can tell you that the support on their online forum was incredible both from him and others. I've had the kind of community experience from Redrock that I'm only accustomed to from DVXuser.com.

By the way, there's one thing that I forgot to mention. I got my training in photography back in the early 80's with 35mm and 2.25 square cameras. Since getting into digital video (DVX and now HVX), I've always felt that there was something missing, and yesterday I realized what it was. The ability to swap out lenses and change the f-stop ON THE LENS and not have to look at an LCD was truly glorious. Perhaps these are just the rantings of guy getting older and trying to recapture his youth, but I really did like the visceral, tactile experience the M2 provides. Does anyone else with an M2 relate to this?

I hope to start playing with my prime and zoom sets as soon as I receive my M2 (4 weeks from now hopefully)

My Nikkor lens list consists of:
Nikkor-O 35mm f/2
Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4
Nikkor 50mm f/2
Nikkor 105mm f/2.5
Nikkor 75-200 f/4

Decent list as for now. :costumed-smiley-047
