Redrock Canon LiveLens mount for AF100!

Biggest surprise of the show - Brian of Redrock Micro just handed me a LiveLens Canon adapter for the AF100 & GH1 & 2! It's a regular EOS adapter with an electronic aperture control. They are still deciding pricing but delivery could be very quick.

It is at the Redrock and Panasonic booths. Thing about this unit is - it is not something all new that needs a lot of testing and whatnot. This is existing tech from a product they've been selling for years. Brian said that if the demand is there, they could have these available in as little as 30 days. Part of what they are doing with it is to gauge demand.

It lets you control the lens' real iris, not some sort of additional iris like the kipon. I don't think it is aiming to be a direct competitor to the Birger on the high end; it doesn't communicate to the camera so no autofocus or OIS, for example. But it does the job lots have been asking for - it let's you mount Canon lenses and control the iris.

got it. I was under the impression that this gizmo gives an accurate readout of the actual aperture in addition to just controlling it.

Nikon adapters with aperture control are already available from other manufacturers. This unit is addressing the hole in the market: aperture control for Canon lenses.

It does. It tells you exactly what iris you have it set at, on a little digital readout. It's pretty cool. Has a 9V battery supply, but I believe you could also power it from the Swit battery so you could have one battery for the whole rig.

I recall a thread where several of us were pretty much begging Redrock to come out with this. I'm glad they listened. If they do actually release it in a decent timeframe, I will buy it..

Here's a couple of photos Barry shot of the unit today:

I'll try get some more shots of it tomorrow.

I was getting close to buying the Redrock live mount and seeing if I could bolt it to a standard ef-4/3 adapter, so thanks Redrock.

great. give me 500usd, im sold.
sorry birger.

Some how that looks more expensive than $500.00. Even money says it is north of $1000.00.

And to somebody with a bunch of L glass... a bargain at that.

EDIT: I am not somebody with a bunch of L glass, just sayin'.

Ha ha! Sweet. I suggested this 2-3 months back, and even called them about it, but didn't expect for them to actually release it.

I spent some time with the Birger and it is frickin' sweet. They are not the same thing. The Redrock is more like a fixed/better Kipon. It is a mount that lets you adjust the aperture on your Canon lenses.

The Birger is a device that makes your Canon lenses look and act like native lenses. They communicate with the camera, relay the focus and iris settings, and work with autofocus, autoiris, and OIS. It is a quite different product. It can take accessory controllers and you can customize it via the computer.

So not directly comparable products. The Redrock will specifically address the most gaping hole in the market, and should be able to do so sooner and less expensively.

I'm glad Redrock adapted this unit to provide functionality for the AF-100, but for my money the Birger mount is the way to go with my EOS glass.

I saw this device on some Redrock Micro rig on their site well year before and forget about it. So it took them little longer to dial it.
