Could someone please tell me what it means when a blinking Red "X" on viewfinder occurs?
thanks

It usually means the heads are dirty. It could be caused by condensation or dust or reusing old or dirty tapes. It can also be caused by mixing types of tape. Some tapes use wet lubricant and some use dry lubricant.

you gotta take it to an authorized panny service center or you can take the risk and do it urself, I think the sticky's still up on how to do it.

I drive it to the service center.

Before you run to the service center I suggest cleaning the heads. I know that the head cleaning tapes are not loved on this site (and I'm sure rightly so) but I do not think that if you were to run a Panasonic Head Cleaner tape thru the camera for 5 secs - 1 or 2 times you would do any major harm. I freaked out with concern when the red x showed up on my camera after about 60 hours. I did tons of research. And, when all was said and done I bought a headcleaning tape and used it with no problems to report (knock on wood). I don't suggest using it over and over, but I personally feel it's safe used in emergency. Good luck!

You know what's weird about my camera's dirty heads...I've been doing a lot of flights from east coast to west over the past year, and I always get the red x the first time I use the camera after a flight. If I run the headcleaner, manually clean it, or sometimes even "stack the tape" by fastforwarding then rewinding all the way, it fixes the problem. But it always happens again, even after I had it professionally cleaned. I was hoping to sell the camera within the next 6 months, but I don't want it to be plagued with this problem. Any ideas?
