I don't know if anybody here really cares, but for the sake of being informed, the Red Scarlet has been delayed ... again... and there's a $1000 price increase, you know, for the HDRx...

Seems every year, they add a new feature, another delay and another grand...

Lovely concept however...

Scarlet...
We have decided to add $1000 to the price of Scarlet and include HDRx™ capability. The extra money will go to more boards and another ASIC plus development. The improvement is more than worth the effort. The image possibilities and capability are incredible.

We watched the voting, but more than that we know how much improvement HDRx™ is to the program.

It will only cause a slight delay in the program. You need to trust on this one...

Jim

52.26% of the voters asked for that.

Thou I would rather like to see HDR as a option, I think RED did this, to have something the new Pany and Drama can not do. 3k for 3k - thats long gone anyway.

Frank

An extra grand puts it close to $6k as the cheapest way to shoot redcode.
That's going to price a lot of people out.

It's all well and good, and I understand, and HDRx is crazy, I still can't believe it (did anyone try to key that supercompressed 96fps greenscreen shot? Its mad!) but that line at the end, 'you have to trust in this one', I feel that word has been used or asked for too many times.

Personally? I would trust. They are brilliant, and they're innovators. But like it or not, reading that just made some muscles in my face twitch....

It is after all, up to the buyer.

That said, I would not buy a scarlet.

I'm not after a big chip, I would easily be happy with an ikonoskop, I'm after form factor. Not to turn this into a competition thread, just to point out the very many things people could want first. And those differ.

From person to person, thank god almighty (if applicable)

Well this has now pushed Scarlet way beyond any my budget. The $4750 for the 2/3" fixed was pushing it a bit (More than a bit to be honest) but combine this with the weak £ and well it's just not do-able any more.

The AF100 is also beyond my budget now (£4000+vat, minimum), so it's DSLRs for me, aliasing, moire, rubbishy codec.

Ah well,
Dave

Well, they announced the delays and improvements Oct 1st this time, not Nov 30th..... that must represent a huge improvement!

a 2/3rd sensor scarlet fixed lens f2.0 with or without HDRx is all I'd thank the heavens for from RED. 5000 dollars is only justified if RAW and (very important) if it works out of the box.

Black and Decker don't sell drills, they sell you a hole in your wall wherever you want, whenever you want.

I'm not buying gear, ultimately I need the image.

I predicted the camera would cost about $8k ready to shoot ... two years ago. Looks like we're getting there.

I knew it. I waited for the apocalypse joke :) More 2012 reference quick! :) 'At least when it's documented the explosions in the sky won't clip... and the depths of the earth that open up will be noiseless and properly exposed"

I love this forum. I bleedin love it.

But seriously, on the waiting for RED issue, loved em first, then kinda hated it and resented the attitude and policy, but after a certain amount of time, I just want to see what they do. It's fascinating. Yeah whether or not I'm buying one, I am eagerly waiting.

We find ourselves between companies who over-deliver too soon but don't listen and/or deliver short of expectations, and another who keeps us waiting just so they can EXCEED those expectations.

It's liberating not to afford a RED, cause I can sit back and appreciate and watch :)

I'm in a good mood today.

red company make good products, no doubt in that. but they said that 2/3" fixed is cheap and affordable. by adding features and hiking prices, its no more cheap kind of a raw 3 k camera at all. its better to see what will happen in future, who will say that red don't add any further features and hike prices. even though it may cross the $8k line also.
