RED Pro zoom 17-50 Anyone try this lens?

Own it. Love it. It LIVES on my 2nd AF-100 package.

Along with the RED 50-150 I have with it, it makes it a sweet cine kit.

Same here the Digi-optic 18-50 & 50-150 live almost permanently attached to my two AF100's - occasionally replaced by higher end rental glass when the job budget allows.

Seems like the Hot Rod doesn't have a lens support option only a Tuner Kit that has a base plate. Do they sell it with lens support and adapter only?

The base plate is an essential part of the kit. I too tried to buy just the lens support, but after talking with Illya about it on the phone, I bought the whole kit and it was worth it.

I apologize for bringing this thread back, but I had some questions re: the red 17-50, and i didn't want to open a new thread.
For those who use/own it, what is the focus rotation? From the pictures I see, it looks like a short throw.
Is this zoom lens parfocal? Some posts say it is, some say it's not.

Erik, I have heard some really nasty thing about the mechanics of this lens. Is there any base for this. A few AC's that come into the shop complain but you know how AC's are?

Mine is great. The zoom has very little play in it. Only when changing direct and really it’s a none issue. When I sent it to Red to get the hood upgrade they said it’s inside tolerance. The focus is smooth as well as the iris, and mine is sharp as well. Their kind of a hot commodity these days on the used market because you cant find a cine zoom for around 5K. Even new at $6500 it’s so much cheaper than anything else.

The only difference in the MKII lens is that the lens hood is 114mm.

I know because I had my Gen. 1 upgraded.

Everything else is the same.

Paul I lived in Phoenix for several years about 13 years ago. I worked at KNXV as a news photog. Do you know Jim Kent? He hired me when he was the Chief Photog. Jim has a production company now. I liked Phoenix a lot. My poor wife became a golf widow back then. Good times.
