Red is hit by the economy

The candor refreshes, the reality of it sucks, but all in all, it reinforces that this is a company that I would want to do business with.

That's unfortunate, but I guess the delay may be good news for those of us who have their existing camera investments working and making money on projects. Also they can continue to hold their value as they won't be made obsolete any time soon with the new technology that was looming from Scarlet. Perhaps we will also see the value of used cameras climb up higher with this news.

No big deal. I'm drooling for a Scarlet, and work with Red footage more and more. But the fact is that there are still a lot of good cameras out there right now. Gear is only a part of the equation.

I think Carlos means it's old news because Jim posted that over a month ago.

It's been linked to here a couple of times.

I guess I just don't see the point in pointing out something like that, except to make someone feel bad.

If it's a thread that isn't of much interest to most people, it will die a natural death. It doesn't need someone saying "Hey, I already knew about this, so why are you even bothering", without offering any other insight or reference.

But, maybe it's just me

Well, I agree it could have been done more diplomatically, saying "that announcement was made a month ago" or something. Or, we could always do it the traditional way around here, with a giant NOOB! picture and a link to the earlier threads.

Point taken

In the meantime, real projects will continue to be shot on something, if not the Scarlet or some other near-future tool. Camera department, as a comparable detail within any larger show budget, is already very small. For true production work, a Scarlet won't be that big a difference compared to other video / digital formats. RED is here now, and it is already satisfying a segment as are the SI products.

If nothing else, RED should be committed to staying around as a profitable and autonomous entity. Looks like they are and that's what really counts to those who've taken the plunge with R1.

I remember reading this and wondering how much RED killed their own market with that BS about: "Don't expect anything and you won't be disappointed." I guess everyone quit expecting anything.

If nothing else, I think now is the time they NEED to be putting heavy money into getting this out the door. It will not take much for Nikon or Canon, or some real company to just decide one day to make the equivalent and kill Scarlett for good.

Maybe Jim had all of his money with Bernie Madoff...

Old news.

Sorry. I had just heard about this as did most of the people I know.
I even did a look about on this forum and didn't see it mentioned.

I guess once one person knows about something we should not discuss it ever more. :)

It's not like I brought up the HVX Clunk or "should I buy this HVX for $2,000 under list".
Cheers.
