RED footage vs 5DMII demonstration mentioned in Video news clip... Cool!

A lot of people were probably impressed by those red rigs. I'm just thinking ug, more to carry! Impossible to not be noticed.

Damn I miss the FORM FACTOR possiblities of the GH1.

Is the 60 d a small camera? Will Canon have a 24p SMALL form factor camera soon?

I want to love the mk2, but it's so damn big!

Watching that video, makes me feel like Canon accidently let the genie out of the bottle. I wonder if they wish they could put it back in. Just amazing that they make it sound that the video quality form this camera was an accident and now it's being used on major features and network series. It's dumfounding on many levels.

The interview really blows me away. There's been so much speculation that Canon did in fact let the genie out of this bottle. That the 5D was developed completely unbeknownst to Canon's video division. And this interview seems to confirm that. They really had no idea what they had done. They simply set out to record good HD video and weren't limited by any need to protect a product line because on the still side there was nothing to protect in terms of video. Hence we got a wonderful high bit-rate compression scheme without any of the slogans, compromises or proprietary equipment like P2 cards.

I'm sure someone over at Canon video knows that this all could have cost 7k and people would have happily paid for it. Instead Canon still's division comes out and just blows it all up. I think Canon wasn't sure what to do at first. But now clearly they are planning to ride the wave. A firmware update is a "never happens" event with a Canon still camera (at least from what I've been told by Canon still guys). Rather than fighting it - it seems Canon has decided to take this all on and as a result truly capture a huge segment of the market. Wait until 24P become a reality. They're really going to sell tons of them.

I wouldn't get too excited about a camera with an image sensor of less than 1/2 the size of the 5D2. If you do not want to take good pictures, you may as well stick with your camcorder.

Slowing the internal clock of the 5D2 to enable 25fps or 24fps (why?) should not be too hard. I was a radio tech, worked in a prototype group, and we adjusted averything - changing clocks is not too hard.

BTW - I have not seen a single 5D2 video out of the 100 odd that I have downloaded, that has been converted to either 25fps or 24 fps that did not suffer jerking on panning.

I see what you mean about sensor size. [compare here.........]

but, some people, post they dont like the sensor size of the 5d . Too big?
too much DOF?

Actually the gh1 sensor is much closer to 35 mm film size - s35- and the Red sensor.

also NOTE: The 5d CROPS the image to get HD VIDEO. this apparently causes aliasing,
which many notice. ( there apparently is a better way to get this HD video aspect
ratio, but Canon doesnt use it. }

60D: So actually a new 60d at possibly - s35 sensor size, may in fact give a better HD/ FILM image than the 5d!

I'd like to see the pros and cons of both.

GH1: But even if the gh-1 has , a preferable sensor size for HD /FILM LIKE video, it seems to lack in other major areas. - ie: it's MUD issue.

VISTAVISION: of course if it's good enough for THE SEARCHERS, its good enuf
for moi!

Pretty cool video and it's great to hear that Canon is listening to the internet chatter and requests being made.
