RED footage vs 5DMII demonstration mentioned in Video news clip... Cool!

A video on the 5D that talks about Cinematographer Rodney Charters ASC talking about using six 5D's on a CBS production; and also how they demoed footage from RED and the 5D from the CBS show projected on 20ft screens at NAB.....Worth the Look!

That part of the news piece starts @ 2:55 seconds of the video report

Also, an insightful interview with one of Canon's marketing people, as well Ken Stone, Phil Bloom and more.

Nice find!

I wonder if the CBS production has access to a 24fps capable 5DMKII ?

Well the beta is in the hands of certain individuals testing it before it goes public which are the murmurings around town in LA.... It wouldn't surprise me the least if Rodney Charters was one of them. Now I'm not saying that Rodney Charters is, just it wouldn't surprise me.

The earliists you'll hear anything like that is NAB 2010!

However since Canon video appears to be having some part in the 5D now, things are a little different over at Canon it seems. Never before did the still division show the still cameras at NAB ( a broadcaster convention ) in the Canon booth. So the deck of cards has received a new shuffle, so to speak.....

Watching that video, makes me feel like Canon accidently let the genie out of the bottle. I wonder if they wish they could put it back in. Just amazing that they make it sound that the video quality form this camera was an accident and now it's being used on major features and network series. It's dumfounding on many levels.

At one point in the video, the Canon rep mentions an add-on for the 5D for helping to deal with sound. I've listened a couple of times but can't catch the name. Can someone help me out please?

Thanks,

Paul

Honestly, don't know how feasible it is, or just talking out my ass, but

Canon - maybe should just stop making camcorders. They have the photo monopoly already and are way ahead of Nikon in the video dept. Just pump out a kick ass successor to the Mark ii with more video features - 24p and audio options and they'd probably monopolize the video market.

Your not talking out your ass!

The best thing would be to merge the two divisions to double the knowledge base and make a whole new hybrid division. Eventually the two technologies are going to be practically transparent anyhow.

I've heard the same rumors... obviously no confirmation from anyone official, but it sure seems that a 24p beta is at least being talked about :)

By the way, thanks for posting the link to my blog! We've got a lot in the pipeline too... subscribe to the daily email for best results (or the RSS feed).

There is another device out there that is supposably better then the Bechtech. The name was kinda weird, that's all I remember.

I think you are referring to Juiced Link. They claim to be a lot quieter than Beachtek but I don't know how well it would interface with the 5D.

Who is that moderator? [Of course I recognized Philip Bloom.]

I watched the whole thing. Who agrees with this guy that 30 p conversion is
"no problem?"

Also did anyone see jello? This guy claims the problem is insignificant.

This seemed to be pre firmware release to. The stationary night shots were cool.

I don't know. Most the helicopter shots looked REALLY JERKY, or, ERRATIC to me.
Not sure how to describe it. Is that the conversion, or jello? They just didn't look
smooth or something. Not near as good as stock helicopter shots I've seen.

{ I was starting to think - dammit use a VIDEO CAMCORDER - lol }

Interesting too, how the video division seems totally separate from still division.
Like the still people just slapped the video on the camera, with no knowledge , or input
from video division.

So this "protecting" their video pro camera lines, school of thought, seems like
erroneous geussterbating.
