Ive seen some hype on the net about the RED cam that will come out within the year possibly. Is this in the Vari cam markate, or is it creaping into HVX price territory.

Shuld I be worried about purchasing a $5,000 1080 cam, if within a year il have a full 35mm frame camera on my doorstep stealing my clients for the same money i paid.

or is this the vari cam markate. and so i shuld forget about it.

Red ......

I've heard speculation in the 100,000.00 dollar range but nothing firm.

Jim Jannard said it would not be that expensive. He said the price will surprise all. My quess is that it will run around $10,000 to $15,000 for a basic cam and lense. Just quessing like everyone else. We'll know what's up at NAB.

I don't think you will get a lens for that price.

True. 35 mm lenses (a decent zeiss or cooke lense) can run you anywhere from 10,000 - 100,000 depending on the speed and other factors of the lense. It's definitely going to be in the varicam or higher range for what this camera can do...amazing!

Yes, they are both HD. What does it have to do with the HVX? Nothing, someone asked whether or not he should buy the HVX or wait for the RED camera...but I think it will be quite out of his/her price range. The Red camera can do resolutions of 4520 x 2540 and everything else the HVX can (all those frame rates and up to 60 fps). If you can afford that, then you should also be able to afford the honkin' system (atleast 2 fiberchannel xserves among the minimum requirements) it would require to get that data stream. I think this is directed towards Mr. Lucas and the other bigwigs who can afford such equipment. Give or take 5-10 years, that technology will be more affordable for us indies, but until then...we get to gawk at that and play with the HVX.

Thx Strongbad, I posted this because, me behing a she, is concerned about future technology raping my HVX. What it has to do with HVX news, well its not HVX news as such but i dont think i could have asked this anywhere else. mabe a general questions area would have sufficed. But i had a general concern and trust you guys to be able to help me with it.

Unfortunatly we are not all pro and know as much as Strongbad knows PHD. So i tend anyway to panic when hearing of something that could make my purchase a little less worth it. Dont have lots of cash.

Will continue to buy the hvx now, thx for clearing this up guys. Il try not talk about other cameras on this site, mabe yall get a bit touchy.

*wink, wink* :)

Angel, there is a RED thread under other cameras. You may want to check it out..personally I think it's unrealistic. The HVX200 will serve you well, just like the DVX100 still is serving people, now and the near future.

He he, red cam are so mysterious. I would not have waited for the damn thing hehe, have a shoot on thursday, well tomorrow. Just needed some peace of mind before sleeping, ive read allot about the red cam but from what people have been saying it will be in pro sumer markate, this seems doubtfull. Besides, by the time people buy the Red cam, me and my HVX will have won the oscar.

*dreams on* speaking of dreaming, godda sleep. cya
