Red and White Banding? Defective HVX?

I think I might have a defective HVX. At first, everything was working just fine, but suddenly, I am now seeing red and white bands all over my footage. They show up on the LCD and in the viewfinder and they also show up on the recorded footage. They are not subtle and they flicker around. Has anyone seen this?

What's really scary is that after I switched from camera mode to VCR mode, the HVX stopped displaying and recording the bands. The problem is sporadic and unpredictable.

HI,

you should have your dealer take a look at it. We do have an Initial Failure program on all of our cameras. In general if it is within a week or so from the date of purchase, we will replace it with a new one. If it has been longer then that, you should call our service center in LA or NJ, depending on where you are, east or west of the Mississippi.

But before you panic any more. Check the footage on your computer. It may be something very simple like a loose wire to the LCD and it is not affecting the footage at all.

Best,

Jan

It is definitely being recorded to the P2 cards because the bands flicker on and off in exactly the same way each time the bad clips are played. When I access menu pages the LCD and viewfinder are crystal clear.

I will post some stills of the problem and contact my dealer. I'm very concerned about this.

I would say, if the playback in your computer looks the same then you should take the card that has the footage on it and the camera all packed up in its box back to your dealer, and I would waste not a second more. Showing the stills here on the web will not solve your problem, your dealer wwill help you solve your problem, that is where you should expend your energy.

Best,

Jan
