Red/7D/5Dll footage

Check out the Rodney Charter’s folks comparison of Red/7D/5Dll. I’ll let you make up your minds.

The 7D holds up quite well if you consider the price.
RED is definitely superior and sharper. But the "look" is not too much ahead of the cheaper DSLRs IMHO if you know how to use it and grade it.

Yeah.
At this res and compression it's pretty close, but in the 2nd clip you can really see how much more resolution and skin detail the Red has compared to the 7D and 5D.

The faces at the end when they wipe from once cam to the other show a fuzzy 7D and 5D image next to that nice crisp Red.

For the money, these little DSLR's rock.

You should understand that it was requested that Rodney only use Canon EOS lenses instead of his follow focus and Panavision lenses that he usually uses. Some of his shots are a little out of focus in this film. I've seen alot of footage from the 5DII that is tack sharp. I wouldn't use this clip to judge sharpness of the 5DII. DP Shane Hurlbut testifies that the 5DII is very sharp projected across a 60 foot screen when used with Panavision Primos.

Yeah...the DP stated that he messed up when choosing the 5D clips. Those were out of focus. I think some of the Reds were also. But the 7D looked awesome when compared to the Red and taking its price in consideration.

If you live in LA then I believe by request he's offering a private screening to look at the footage on the big screen which he states holds up very well.

The Canon 7D is definitely a "winner" if you consider the price. Let's see what Canon will release in 2010 :)

The UK price of the 7D has also dropped lately, which is good as it re-establishes a more USA-like difference in the 5d/7d price, wheras at launch they were so similar as to make it negligible.
