GH4 Recover video files from SDXC?

Hey guys,

So for the first time since I've had the GH4, I have a data failure. I shot with two different cards yesterday. One card reads fine but the other doesn't. They are two different brands. Some details:

Lexar Professional 1000x 64GB
All footage C4K with some 10+ minute takes
Card was purchased 2 weeks ago and successfully used on one project already.
Card was formatted in camera before use that day.
Files were all playing back fine from that card, so I know it was working even up to the last shot.
Does not mount in Windows 7,10 or MacOS. Consistently asks to format card.
Partition is a raw file system and only shows up as 7ish GB. Much less than the card actually is.

I've tried multiple recovery tools to no avail. I'm a bit unfamiliar with data recovery, but well versed in computer management. So, if there's a method for recovering this data, I'll try it. Most of the day was recorded on this card and a lot of effort and people were involved. Lesson learned for on-site data backup and redundancy. Changing practices from now on. I just really need to save this data if I can.

Thanks in advance!
RJ

Lexar is a brand not especially known for quality. I have had Lexar media fail me in the past (2007), so I use nothing but SanDisk purchased only from reputable sources like B&H.

Sorry to see this happen to you and I hope some recovery is possible.

If the dual card slot setup on the GH5 will allow simultaneous recording I will definitely use that but until then I will copy files on location to a laptop.

What card reader are you using ?

I currently use a Delkin Devices UHS-II reader which has been flawless for me, but I have had issues in the past with other readers where the SD card won't mount.

I'm currently using a transcend USB 3.0 reader. However, this has been the same on a MacBook, PC laptop, and my desktop which all used different readers. :/

Man, I hate that for you, and wish I had something useful to tell you other than to Google data recovery services.

I know it doesn't help you one bit now, but this is an opportunity to remind people of the importance of on-set data wrangling. Unless I'm shooting a live event that requires long record times, I purposely use two, small capacity A and B cards for each camera. There's no temptation to go all day. Every few takes the cards are rotated, backed-up (to two different HD's) and put back into rotation.

I do the same for the cards that we give our students (8gb or 22 minutes on our cameras), but they don't listen.

I had this happen to me recently. The only free tool that worked was Photo Rec. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec. It got every scrap of data off my card. The only problem is that with quicktimes, you end up with two separate files, an mdat and ftyp, one has the movie, the other the metadata, and I had to merge them into one file. In my case unfortunately, they were named differently so I had no way of knowing what belonged to what. I ended up using this program to repair the movie file instead--http://grauonline.de/cms2/?page_id=5. Once I got the movie, I discovered the clips were corrupted and wouldn't play smoothly in Quicktime, but would play fine in VLC. Took a while to figure out but I was finally able to re-encode it using FFMPEG. https://www.ffmpegx.com. Wish there was a simpler process, and some of the programs you have to pay for might be easier. I demoed a couple and they couldn't find as much data as Photo Rec did.

GOOGLE "AERO QUARTET"..THIS SERVICE SAVED ME.Its not free, but reasonable if you really need the footage. Mine was for a wedding.
