Recover Deleted MXF Files, P2 contents - HELP!!!

Ok, had some bad stuff happen today and some footage was deleted by mistake.

In FCP6, while importing the contents of a P2 card, files were deleted from the transfer list in the transfer window. The editor working on it wanted to just eject the list of files but deleted them by mistake. Selected all files and deleted. Yes, the warning came up which said the action was undo able, but for some reason he hit ok and the files went bye bye. I haven't touched the drive they were on. Is there anyway to recover these files? They should technically still be there if they weren't overwritten correct?

Any help would be great.

As a first step, WRITE PROTECT THE P2 CARDS by sliding the little switch on the spine of the card to the locked position. That will protect whatever information is still on the card.

Then try different data recovery applications to see if they can get the files back. You may have better luck with PC-based applications since FAT32 originated on PCs.

It wasn't coming off the cards. We dump cards to hard disk before importing. Cards were dumped and formatted before the import into FCP. It was the ONE time we did it that way due to a time constraint. All day we would dump to a drive, then import, THEN format. We just needed the card back asap...go figure it was the one time something went wrong.

Tried the PC techniques via Macdrive on my PC but they don't play nice with mac formatted disks, they see them but crash when trying to read them. It's not like I can transfer the "empty" space from the drive to a PC drive.

Tried file salvage but it doesn't see mxf files, it only looks for files it can recognize. What mac program will let me see everything that is on the drive?

Data Rescue II found EVERYTHING!!! WEEEEE!!!!

Oddly enough it recognized everything as .dv files. Hey whatever...they work and I am a happy camper. "This action is undoable" <----nya nya!!! :2vrolijk_08:

:D :D :D

Could you please explain how you did it? I have the same situation, tried the software already but was not successful. Is there anything special I should do to recover that type of file?

THANKS!!!

Hi Jester,
I had the same problem and could restore the files with File Salvage... but now, how can I get those .dv files on FPC ?
thanks in advance for any help.
