Recording to external deck AND DVRack

Hi,

Anyone tried recording to external deck AND DVrack simultaniously?

To reduce wear on my DVX head I wanted to record to an external deck AND also to capture on DVrack.

I connected the external deck and DVX both to a multi port 1394 card on my laptop(one can use a 1394 hub also I think). Set the dv control option on DVX to EXT. Now when I press record on DVX the external deck (Sony Digital8 Camcorder) starts recording but DVRack does not. To capture on DVRack I have to press record button on the laptop (record button for DV VTR in DVrack). But I want to record to BOTH external deck AND DVRack using ONE button only.

Did all kind of experimentation but could not get it to work. DVRack support people say it is not possible.

I was wondering if someone out there tried the same thing?

Don't have DVRack with me right now to check, but isn't there a setting in the menu that sets it to a 'slave' mode? I think it's called DVR Slave to Cam, or something like that.

I would check that.
