Recording Straight To Final Cut

Hey I searched the forum and could not find what I was looking for.
I was wondering if recording straight to Final Cut is a lot cleaner then recording to tape as far as quality goes because it eliminates the transfer from tape to hard drive.
Does anyone record straight to final cut instead of to tape?
Do you need an empty computer to do this?
Is it worth not recording to tape?

since transferring from DV tape to a computer is all done digitally through a firewire cable there is absolutely no quality loss. Its much like sending data from a harddrive to another harddrive, just a series of 0s and 1s being transferred back and forth. So the only benefit would be ease of editting or something I suppose, seems like mroe of a hassle in the end for the same footage.
