recording problem

I've had my DVX100A for a few months now and have recorded about 20 hours footage so far. Recently I've noticed a little glitch with the record button. On a few occasions it hasn't responded right away and the time code has read 00:00;00. On such occasions I've had to press it a few times (always with the same amount of finger pressure) before it went from PAUSE to REC. Today, another strange thing happened. I had recorded a few minutes on a new tape and then stopped recording for a while. When I tried pressing record again it wouldn't respond and the red empty tape symbol started flashing on the LCD. After a couple more tries, the camera was functioning normally again. Has anyone heard of this problem? Should I be concerned?

Re: recording problem

I am not familiar with DVX, but in all tape recording systems, the presence of a tape is being detected/ monitored. If this system fails intermittantly it will reset yr timecode (as if you took away/replaced a tape) and/or block the rec mode. Repairshop job...

i am having the exact same problem!!?? i am right in the middle of an action sports film, has any one figured this out or had the same problem??? please advise

Does it only happen when you're using the camera handheld? If so, you're likely using it by holding only with the right hand, and not supporting it with the left hand, right? If that's the case, the handgrip can exert pressure on the tape door, and there have been a few reports that it can lead to the type of situation you're describing. The solution is to try to add some support so that the entire weight of the camera isn't being pulled against the handgrip alone.
