recording over/undercranked to a Samurai or Hyperdeckshuttle?

Hi folks, i was wondering if it is possible to record overcranked 50p to a 25p file to an external recorder such as the atomos or hyperdeck shuttle when recording in S&Q? Also, how will this be handled with the other framerates available in S&Q when recording to an ER?

Thanks in advance!

No, you need a recorder that records at least 1080p50. The two you mention can't do this. You need a faster HD-SDI port for that. You need at least 2 x 1,5Gbs connections or a 3Gbs connection for that.

The CD Gemini, Odyssey 7Q and AJA Ki Pro Quad can record it. The higher framerates won't be a problem I heard, since they are recorded while the recording buffer is emptied and the transcoding to AVCHD will be bypassed this way if you record externally. The recording time limits will be the same. So you will still be able to record only a couple of seconds, but in a better quality. In 2K raw you won't have these time limits anymore. 4K raw will be limited to a couple of seconds.

Hope this answers your question.

Cheers,

David

Technically you can record the higher frame rates out from the buffer to a Samurai (not sure about the hyper deck) - but only interlaced (set the camera video output to interlaced) as it can do 50i/60i. You can do the 50fps and 60fps S&Q interlaced too - but it won't be 'slow' in the Samurai.

Also - don't know about the timelapse. You can set the Samurai to a timecode trigger so that should work with timelapse. But you might want to run a quick test.
