recording over tape

I have 1 tape.

I hope to fix that ASAP, but until then, i have a project to shoot tomorrow. I highly doubt i will have an hour of footage by the end of the day, but if i could tape over what's on there now, it would give me some needed extra space.

Is it ok to tape over footage on DV tapes?

Why not reuse tapes? Is it from an accumulated dirt perspective? I have a box of tapes from a project where the client stiffed me (no they didn't get any video either), and I was thinking about blacking the tapes and reusing them.
