Just bought my first DVX100A...
I have connected a Sennheiser ME66 to the camera to feed both channels. Would it be a good idea to set the levels differently on each channel, say 20 dB lower on one. Then, in the edit (PPro 1.5), just send the audio thru a mono submix. And, in the case of levels being too high (clipping) on one channel, just throw away that channel and use the good one?
Am I correct that the limiter does not work independently on both channels, but cuts also in the good one if only one channel hits the peak? If so, the limiter would have to be turned off for my cheme to work.
Have I missed something here?
By the way, I did a test recording pink noise from a hi-fi system, and when the level meters showed 3 red dots, the level was 2.5 dB below clipping according the statistics in Adobe Audition. Thus you should aim at having 2-3 reds to light up at peaks to get decent levels.
