Recording off DVD player to camera

Is this possible? I would really love to be able to do this right now as it would relieve me from jumping though a myriad of confusing software and conversion hoops. I need to edit footage that is currently on a non-protected DVD. If I could record to minicasette on the DVX using av rca cables from a dvd player... I'm able to feed the sound and video to the DVX but can't seem to record it onto it's tape,
Otherwise, if that is not possible, has anyone used mpeg streamlink and could they help guide me through going from mpeg-4 to .mov or .avi? Life would be good
 
You can use your DVX as a digital converter and record anything coming into from the RCA connections and just firewire out to your computer. I did it with old VCR and Super8 footage. It just needs the bottom (I think?) trimed away because of some weird noise.
