I'm about to start a project that will require me to get a new mac book pro (hooray), and I'll be recording live into it. I will be recording in HD on an EX1, and probably be using an external hard drive.

What would be the best set up for this?
Thanks.

check out the AJA IO HD. you can do SDI from EX1, into the IO HD, and capture via firewire into ur mc pro, pro res.

i'd make sure u get a very nice fast hard drive for stable recording. esata with a express card adapter (u need 17 inc mc pro ) is my recommendation, as the IO will be using up ur FW bus and u don't wanna cut into the bandwidth. USB not an option IMHO.

or i'd just rent a KI PRO or two depending on how long ur recording and offload from that.

there is also adobe on location which i believe u can record from the firewire off the camera, but i don't think ur gonna get anywhere near as good quality as u would through SDI through a ki pro or IO HD....

I have streamed 1080 into an older Mac laptop ('05 G4 1.67gHz) and had no issues whatsoever saving to a middle of the road Western Digital Mybook.

It's easy. Just plug the camera into the computer, use log and capture, and set Device Control to "Non-Controllable Device." Then use "capture now" and esc key to toggle off and on recording. You don't need anything else except maybe a specific firewire cable since the Macbooks don't have firewire 400 jacks.
