Recording HDMI Output

While recording a live event to the SDHC cards, I would like to simultaneously record to a computer to use as a back-up should the SDHC card go bad. Is there a way to do this? Do you have to have a capture card in the computer or can this be done with software, similar to recording .avi files to a hard drive using firewire. Ideally, I would like to record the HDMI signal to a laptop. What about the 150's USB output? Can you record simultaneously from that?

Sadly, no. If you're going for economics I would recommend using your composite output and running that to an older MiniDV camera if you have one with a video in. Lots of DVD recorders for $~100 will also record a live stream, but this is all low-def.

AFAIK your only options for HD are something like a Firestore (check that it accepts HDMI because the HMC150 doesn't have a FireWire port) or, if all else fails, a desktop computer with a blackmagic card.

HDMI cables can be had pretty cheaply on http://monoprice.com - 40' is around $25. 15' is about $15.
