Recording Dialogue and Sound?

Hey all,
Shooting my next short with a Senheizer Shotgun Mic on a boom pole with a shock-mount. I did my last film with the camera mic that came with the DVX last year in 2005 and we had a lot of trouble with sound for the film and had to do a lot of work in the studio.

Now, since I am using a boom mic, how do I get optimal sound? I know about levels and keeping them leveled, etc for the Audio 1 Channel, but what about Channel 2. Do I record sound from the camera as well for Channel 2? Or should I record from Channel 1 and duplicate it? Or will that make it sound echo-y. Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming you'll be recording straight into the DVX, 1 mic, no mixer...

Get the mic as close to the talent as possible, record to both channels but set different levels for each channel. This will give you some options during editing. If one channels is too hot you can just duplicate the other channel in post, and there is no echo.
Use a hyper for indoors and a shotgun for outdoors. And check out the audio forums for tons of info.
