What device would I need to plug into the dj or band audio mixer to record the audio at a wedding reception. Thanks!

I just purchased the zoom h4n. a lot of people here recommended it so i went with that option. the only thing with the zoom h4n is that it does not do line level through the XLR input. you will have to use the 1\4 trs connector (make sure its trs so you don't get interference) from the zoom to the mixer. if you don't have to move around a lot and are shooting from a fixed position you can always go from the mixer straight to the camera using a xlr cable.

I just bought the DR-1 by Tascam. I was debating, and then it dropped $130 on amazon. Guitar Center Price matched it and I went out and grabbed it. It recorded phenominally. You can attach your wireless lavs, or I used it in front of musicians at a wedding ceremony using the built in mics and it was better than i could have done with a good condensor. Highly recommend. it also has 7 hours of battery life.

Guitar Center and most sites still have this thing at $299, but at $189, you can't go wrong.

If you're not gonna be far from the audio source, a TRS to XLR (male) should be what u need, literally every mixer has a TRS headphone out that you could use.

How good does it work at keeping things sync? some devices start to shift little by little, after an hour you might be off by 15 frames to a few seconds! i want to get one that stays in sync

but maybe I'll give this a try... i just used the "plural eyes" FCP plug in to sync audio and video from multiple sources and it works great. sorry for hijacking the thread but it's very cool http://www.singularsoftware.com/

B&H has the Tascam Recorder for $179.95 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/545821-REG/Tascam_DR_1_DR_1_Portable_Stereo_Audio.html
