recording before you hit the red button

I've read online that it is possible to set the HVX so it will record prior to "hitting the red button," but can't seem to find any information on how to set the camera up in this manner? I'm assuming that in this setting it is recording and dumping and when you hit record it keeps the backlog of video?

thank you for any help!

Turn on the PreRec function. Set your scene file to VIDEO CAM mode and then go into the recording setup and enable PreRec.

When you do something like...let´s say whale watching. You never know when it gonna happen before it´s to late to press the button. (yeah lame example, but you get the idea)

You can do that in film mode when you use a Firestore, Adobe OnLocation or something similar thou.

ok, im lost. if recording starts before you hit the button, what is there some telepathic feature im not aware of?

in pre rec mode-its always recording - pressing the rec button just commits a predetermined amount of footage to the card - time varies on shooting mode.

its very handy for shooting lightning!

Why would one want to record before hitting the red button?

I've used it to get some wicked lightning strikes using extremely little space on the P2 cards. I could have used a bunch of 16 gigs and then filtered through the hours of footage... But with the pre rec mode I was able to see the flash have a few seconds to get to the button and get the shots. Then I only had action clips that didn't require me to edit or filter to find.

Ditto on the lightning shots, also it is great for audio on a run n gun shoot, you never know when a conversation will start so you have 3 seconds to hit the record button and still capture it. Lot of good uses for pre record, I always leave it on.
