On the D800 whilst trying to record audio through an external recorder I can hear the internal noises of the camera (whilst changing Aperture) What is best practice?

I use an Azden SMX-10 Directional Stereo Mic.
It has a rubber shock absorber-insulator.
Even when mounted on the flash shoe,
I do not hear the internal noises of the camera
or focus motor of the lenses,
nor my breathing.
When inserted, the external mic turns off the internal one.
