Recording Audio in a 2 camera setup.

I couldn't find any topics about this, so I started one.

I'm in preproduction on a short film that's gonna be shot with 2 DVX100a's, very Casavettes-styles as the director likes to put it. It's gonna be all hand-held, lots of dialogue, and improvy.

My question is: What is the best way to record audio on two separate cameras so when we cut it, we can use camera A's master shot, and then seamlessly cut Camera B's CLOSE UP and have the audio be as crisp as Camera A's shot. Should we use a clapper and then synch in post? Should we use camera A as our master audio track?

Any advice and tips would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

I would think this might give you 4 channels to utilize. In other words you could think in terms of this being like having a 4 track recorder, so if you wanted to run a couple of discrete radio mics or something you'd have the channels to play around with. It might be a little cumbersome in post because you'll be cutting back and forth between different audio sources, but you could certainly work this out in editing.

You would absolutely need to slate the cameras. Whatever you do always be running some kind of reference track on the second camera so you have a way to check sync later on. I suppose if you wanted the same mixes on both cameras, you could run a couple of outputs from the mixer to the cameras. But it seems like those extra channels of audio could be put to use.

So slating would be a requirement no matter what...got it. We'll be shooting with a shotgun mic...no radio mics unforntunately....what budget wireless lavs do you recommend?

Thanks for the advice.

how many mikes you plan to use , mixer? how much money you like to spend
if you intend to shoot wide and tight , dont do it , shoot medium-closeup
the wide shoot separately or use the second camera for no sync visible shotes
you can run both cameras without clup , free run and just slate in the start of the scene , be careful slate every time after cassett change or battery change
