I understand the dv100B can record off an external unit via the analog inputs. In the manual it mentions you are able to record straight from the tv, so therefore any input into the tv wether its an xbox, dvd or video player can be recorded. unfortunatly it doesnt seem to work on any tv ive tried, though inputing stright from the source(ie xbox) into the camera works but corrupts the data as its copyright protected.

does anyone

a) know if the tv needs to say it has output capability?!!! wether there is such a thing

b) know a solution of getting round the copyright corruption of image problem

any suggestions would be much appreciated

You can't record from a TV by connecting to its analog inputs. You can only record from it if you're connecting to ports specifically labeled "Out." TVs aren't really output devices, and not all have outputs.

You can record from a cable or satellite box which has the correct outputs.

David - i dont think that's what he meant. He seems to be connecting his xbox directly to the camera (which is valid) but says recording gets corrupted cause of some sort of Macrovision type thing.
Back in the day, they used to sell these boxes that would strip macrovision so you could dub VHS tapes and such. i didnt know this was still an issue but i guess it makes sense

Actually, my brain was apparently in neutral this morning.

I responded to question a) but spaced on question b).

The answer to question b) in terms of this message board is, as content providers ourselves, we do not support piracy of any kind and we won't have discussions as to how to defeat copy protection.

Sorry . . . :(
