HPX250: Record Time on P2 w/HPX250

I'm trying to figure out what camera to purchase to replace my original HVX200. I was pretty certain I wanted to get away from the P2 technology because I feel it's way to expensive of a ratio of drive space to recording time. I was wondering if with the AVC Intra codec you get more record time per P2 GB than I do with my HVX200 DVCpro HD?

It's a simple function of card capacity / (bitrate * duration). Both DVCProHD and AVCIntra can eat as much as 100Mbps, so the recording capacity is essentially the same using the two codecs.

However, AVCIntra100 can record native frames only in 1080p. You also have the option of recording AVCIntra50, which has the same spatial resolution as DVCProHD at half the bitrate.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm in no way dissappointed in the AVC or DVCpro codecs themselves. I've been out of college for 2 1/2 years and have yet to find full time employment so I do freelance work. In my area the projects are few and far between. The only stuff I get asked for on a regular basis are event recordings which I can't do with my HVX200. I don't have enough money to purchase enough P2 cards to meet my needs so I need something that has greater record time per $. I'm sure the HPX250 is a wonderful camera and the P2 technology is awesome. Just not cost effective for me right now.

This is off the top of my head...

On a 64gb card you get:
Avci-100: about 60 minutes
Avci-100 @ 1080/24p: about 72 minutes
Avci-100 @ 720/24p: about 150 minutes

Avci-50: about 120 minutes
Avci-50 at 1080/24p: about 144 minutes
Avci-50 @ 720/24p: about 300 minutes

Just a note that for non broadcast work AVC Intra 50 is fine and a superbly efficient codec.

P.S in PAL land I get 71mins at AVC 100 25p and 142 mins AVC 50 25p for 64gb.

What I was saying is that the HPX250 using AVCIntra100 can record 1080/24p using just native frames, something the HVX200 using DVCProHD cannot do.
