GH3 Record remote / trigger

This is probably a long shot, but any chance a zoom control remote (Varizoom) made for a DVX / HVX would work on a GH3?

I know the jack size is the same, but doubt that you can start / stop recording with one of those remote controllers.

Pretty much looking to start / stop video recording from a tripod handle or shoulder mount handle / grip.
 
That is the back up. And those can trigger the video recording to start, not just snap a photo, right?

I guess I should've mentioned what I'm really wondering... I want to put a 2/3" B4 zoom lens & I have a 12 pin Hirose to D-tap cable to power the zoom servo motor on the lens.

There is a version of the cable which has power, but also a second cable to plug into a AF100 zoom jack (the 2.5mm Panasonic LANC type jack). This enables the lens to have servo zoom capabilities & also the ability to use the record trigger on the zoom lens to start / stop recording on the AF100.

So if the GH3 uses the same protocol as the AF100 / DVX100 / HVX200 etc. on the 2.5mm zoom controller, then I can use that cable on a GH3. (I'm guessing this is a long shot). But if it is a different protocol, then I have to figure out something else. Or just use the cheap remote triggers from Amazon.

Right. If you're in Movie mode, the remote shutter acts like the camera shutter button: halfway down to focus, all the way to begin recording. If you're in a photo mode, the remote shutter will snap a photo instead.
 
I've been contemplating a remote start stop for my GH3. I am making a Aaton style wood handle and thought about running a remote trigger up in it. Does anyone have experience with specific brands of remote trigger? Its all new to me.
 
Well if you're going to do a DIY, I'd suggest starting here. I don't know anything about electrical engineering, so this is all greek to me & as such looks legit.

But I would just like to buy this & plug it into a GH3. But I the TRS looks different between the GH & AF 2.5mm (1 ring of plastic on the AF100 & 3 rings of plastic on the GH series).
