F55: Record onto Atomos Samurai or Internally for 1080p?

Hi all,

I am using the F55 in a week, and have a bit of a dilema on what to do.

If recording in 1080p only, is it best to record onto a Samurai straight into Pro-Res HQ or into the SxS Pro cards internally???

Both the Samurai and internal cards have the same 220mbps recording data/speed.

(I am thinking the Samurai as it would not be compressed and not need encoding to Pro-Res from its native compression format) Also my Samurai has a 500GB SSD, where as the SxS cards are only 64GB each.

Any help would be great, thanks!

I think you should do some tests between XAVC and ProRes HQ. You might find you prefer the XAVC, in which case no need for the extra burden of the external recorder. One of the key features of the F5/55 is the strong internal codecs which can potentially eliminate the need for clunky external recorders.

Memory for those external recorders is far cheaper though, so there is that.
