record internally or externally

I've been thinking a lot about the PIX 240 - but since I already have a Sound Devices MixPre-D, it may all be overkill in the audio department. If the Samurai measures up w.r.t. image quality, build quality, and workflow efficiency, I may take Shooter's advice and save the $1,000.

Shooter, did you get the DNxHD upgrade - and do you plan to test it in an AVID workflow?

I dont think the DNxHD up grade is available yet .(Early next year I believe)

Its a bit naughty of Atomos to promote the Samurai device as if it is already available!

Its also a bit naughty of them to release a device that does not have an Operators Manual. ("Coming Soon" - wtf!)

That said...they do respond very well and quickly from their support department. (They are kind of friendly with it)

What ever..it is a great device with a couple of "why the hell did they do that..that way" kind of things. ( Should have asked me first)

I will be springing for the Pix 240 for two reasons. Mainly for the 10 bit video record but also for the audio recording. Sound Devices has extremely low noise floors on all its gear and I am not happy at all with the noise floor on the AF-100. Discerning clients have complained about it and it drives me crazy no matter what mics I use with the Mix-Pre. So, the Pix 240 should give me exactly what I am after (hopefully :)
