Record in multiple formats at same time?

Since this camera can record in so many multiple formats -
is this possible?....

What if you could record in both HD to the P2 card and SD to the mini DV tape at the same time so that you could edit in DV then upress to HD afterwards with the EDL edit decision list. (?)

Im only sugesting this casue I like the realtime abilies and ease of editing DV and I fear trying to edit HD is going to be like editing with a snail. Certainly no real time tittles and fades that Im used to - casue if I had this camera no way I could afford a real time card for HD.

However, you might consider proxy editing

However, you might consider proxy editing

Even though you can't record both formats at the same time, there are products like the Matrox Axio, which lets you make a proxy file of your DVCPro HD recordings.

You edit the smaller proxy files, then when you render, Axio pulls the full sized files from wherever you are storing them and renders a full, uncompressed hi def output.

I'd be interested in knowing the workflow with effects on this with products like After Effects.

The axio costs more than the HVX, at 12000$ for the HD version
The NLE real time extra expenses are overlooked by everybody, it's 10k for the camera and 15-20k for an editing system (if you go with the axio)
I haven't done any research, I know there are other solutions, and you can always do an offline with DV and recapture HD for the online

Does anyone know if it will be possible to delete pictures from P2 card in camera while keeping the audio recorded with those pictures. I would like this feature to be included as an easy on shoot process, as it would free up space on cards when dumping outtakes but allow sound to be kept that may be valuable for editing. Suppose if it's possible they'll include it but anyone know for sure?

With the current P2 cams ( spx-800 ) you select whole clips from the thumbnail menu. The whole clip is deleted. So Video + Audio. The OS of the hvx-200 is nearly identical, so it won't be possible.

You could, before deleting the clips from the card, hook up the cam to a laptop, and transfer the mxf-files from the 'Audio'-folder to a HDD. ( each audiotrack is a separate mxf-file).

well you bring up the SPX800.. that camera allows you to shoot multiple formats at once, well kinda, it lets you shoot a small proxy onto SD card. I wonder why the HVX didnt go that route, because its a pretty great feature.
