Record from HMC150 to Laptop

Right now with my old DVX100A I can record both to tape and/or via the Firewire port directly into my laptop PC.

Can the HMC150 also be connected to a laptop PC so that the video gets recorded directly onto the hard drive? If so, is anything special required other than the appropriate cable?

Thanks,

Dan

No streaming video is possible from any AVC-based camera. If you want to record simultaneously on an outboard recorder, you'd need an HDMI recorder. For a laptop, look at the BlackMagic H.264 Recorder.

(edit: Barry beat me to it)

Not in the same way DV Can through firewire. You'll have to get a capture card and plug the camera in in via HDMI (Matrox MXO2 uses an expresscard slot or the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle does it on a PC laptop via a USB 3.0 port), or via Component cables like the Blackmagic video recorder.

The 150 doesn't have a firewire port, and even if it did, avchd can't stream from one. The P2 cams like the HPX170 or the HVX can output dvcpro hd (a much higher bitrate of plain dvcpro) through firewire if your NLE or capture program can handle it. If you're serious about recording via the HDMI port, you can capture up to full raster 1920x1080 with 4:2:2 color (which looks quite nice :) )

hope that helps
