Record flip-flopped image for 35mm Adapter in Camera

Is there a way for the HPX170/HVX200 to record a flipped & flopped image (since the camera actually flips & flops the image already, I guess I want the ability to record the image before the camera flip-flops it)?

I use a Cinevate 35mm adaptor without a flip module for documentary work because I don't want the added weight & length of the flip module . The camera, adapter, and lenses I use were chosen because they are all relatively light weight and enable me to shoot hand-held.

I would like to avoid flipping all the footage in post. Any suggestions?

Can't be done. If you want to use the gear you've got and avoid flipping in post, you'll need to get the cinevate flip module.

Thanks Barry. I figured you would know if there was a hack, but alas...

What's the scuttlebut? Are there any manufacturers talking about including this feature in a camera any time soon? Anybody else want to record a flipped image?

The HPX300 and the JVC HD200/HD250 have the scan inverse function; I think the HM700 might have it too.

So a few cameras have it. But with all the manufacturers now offering right-side-up adapters, the demand for adding this new camera feature has certainly dropped off.

Barry, thanks for the info on the cameras that have this SCAN INVERSE function. Too bad there is no P2 camera with the HPX170 form factor in the list.

Must one use the stock lens on the HPX300 to use a 35mm adapter (if yes, it would make hand held adapter work unpractical)? Is there some kind of shorter relay lens available?

No, you don't have to use the stock lens. You can use a relay lens from Letus, or if you're going with the mini35c, it includes its own relay lens.

What would be really nice for FCP users is to have an option to flip/flop on ingest. I have used Raylight too, but this feature is missing as well.

35mm adapter use is a way peripheral/fleeting demographic in the first place. and most if not all adapter manufacturers have already made flip-enabled versions...

if i were a big name manufacturer, id concentrate on removable lenses rather than image flipping...

I'm looking for a small hand held rig for docs and unfortunately removable lenses on a 1/3" sensor camera won't give me the shallow depth of field I'm looking for. That's the only reason I use the Cinevate Brevis 35mm adapter. It is extremely lightweight and depending on the taking lens, can be used without rod support.
