Recommended Titling Software for Vegas

Titling appears not to be one of Vegas' stronger points.
Need to kick it up a notch.
What's a good plug in?
Cayman Graphics?
Anybody like it?
Not like it?
Any other suggestions?
I'll leave it at those five searching questions.
Have played with Bluff Titler, but it seems a tad cheesy.
Gouda be the country of origin.

Is there a specific effect you're looking for?

Most plug-ins just execute scripts of steps you could take yourself.

Yeah. Vegas's titler appears weak at first. But like Vegas itself, you're only looking at a paint-thick surface.

Do I under estimate the power of Vegas' titling abilities?
You saying learn more about the onboard capabilities before buying something like Cayman?
Here's hoping two questions aren't too many?
Er,----aw,---three.

Project I'm working on now is a promotional peice. The aim is to attract business and industry to this area,---three municipalities.
I've just been a bit disppointed in the look of the titling, seems a bit flat. Also might need to do some animation,---flying titles in and out. Not the cheesy Bluff Titler stuff please.
Need something that's clear and snappy, professional-looking and i don't feel I'm getting that.
I'm not slamming Vegas, I love it!
Could be I'm not using the full power and potential of Vegas titling capabilties?
For my time, getting a titling program to plug in may be cheaper than learning the capabilities of Vegas as regards titling.
Make any sense?

I think you can do a lot in Vegas, but it takes time. Something like Livetype for the Mac, you just type the text, select the animation, font, effects etc and it's done. Very, Very nice. There doesn't seem to be anything really decent on the PC that I've found that matches Livetype (Maybe if you pay thousands you might find something)

Yeah, I drool over Live Type.

Check out Vasst's website regarding Ultimate S2. I just purchased it, and while I don't see anything initially that will do some automatic titles, it could have something I'm missing. I've looked at some of the lower thirds it has with it, and some are very pro looking.

If it doesn't have it, if enough of us beg for it maybe it's something they'll add sooner or later.

Otherwise, my initial thought is that if you're thinking the text looks flat, try playing with the bump map, or CUSTOM composit on a duplicate track above ... I'm confident you could create some stuff that would surprise you.

Well, you can animate, crop, slide, motion track, or add any effect to any text clip just like you would any other clip. Move it around, fade it in, spin it in circles -- it can all be done.

You can add texture by using composite parent/child tracks and using the text as a mask, or a myriad of other composite modes can achieve all sorts of effects.

Now, there are limits -- if you want to make, say, 3D metallic text, you're better off creating a title card in Graffiti or something else and then bring it in to animate.

And it's not quite as slick as LiveType.

But there is a whole lot more than meets the eye.

The Vegas titler isn't accessible to us to program tools for Ultimate S. We wish it were different. We could hack Vegas to make a better titler, but that would void your warranty with Sony and make us look bad in the community and to Sony.:undecided Someone else recently did this, and Sony's response wasn't thrilling.

Anyway, take a look at some of the title veggies on the VASST site, I think you'll find Vegas is very powerful. Not as powerful as Livetype, gads how I miss that on the PC. (Yes, it was India Pro Titler on the PC long before it was Livetype) I still have my copy, but it's a standalone.

There is a very simple Bezier mask effect on the VASST site right now, you might find it inspiring just a bit. VERY easy to do. Plus allows 3D for each letter in your title.

Thanks for that tip, Spot, about the Veggies on Vasst. Really curious what Sony's response was about the person who tried to improve the titling ... law suit? Sure hope they have plans to improve it ... one of the FEW things I see as a weakness with Vegas, but obviously a very livable one.

No, no response about lawsuit, just responded with "we don't appreciate people breaking our software so they can make a buck selling plugins."
Can't blame them for that. In Ultimate S, we could easily improve the titling tools, but to do so requires we break/hack Vegas' code. So...what happens when someone buys Ultimate S and installs it, then later has a tech support problem? Should Sony support a non-OEM build of Vegas because we "broke" their application? The EULA specifically says you can't modify their code, so if you were to do so, you'd need to keep it private, and not sell a plugin that hacks their code.

I know I'd sure be unhappy if someone broke our code and sold it...And if you called with a tech support question, we'd instruct our people to not take the call, and tell the user to uninstall the broken version, reinstall the stock version and THEN call us if they were having problems.

Adobe has a "do-not-support" list, just like most big manufacturers. I'd sure hate to get on Sony's list...if they have one.

Great reasoning, Spot, wouldn't want you guys to get on that "do not support" list for selling plug-in's that hacked their software.

So, does anyone have a plug-in they've created that they'd like to share for free?

Kidding. Ahem, but if you do, just PM me about it.

Again, kidding. Not really. Maybe. Hmmm.

Maybe they can put more hooks into the code.

Or buy the code from the author and incorporate it.

I'm sure they'd like an even better product. :)

One text effect I particularly like on the VASST site (.veg file) is a "liquid" effect which makes the text look like it's coming through a flowing sheet of mercury.

While that's a nice effect, I don't think that's the one David was describing as coming out of liquid mercury ... but I could be wrong.
