F5: recommended memory cards for my new F5

Hello! It's me once again.

Right I have my F5 now - but need some new cards - I had 32bg scan discs in my F3 - but they won't do for the F5.

What affordable options as there for me please? I won't be recording 4k - just 2K and HD in various frame rates. I need to get them for Saturday when I take it to Singapore. I will also need a Sony card reader as well....

Thanks as ever, Sparky

I would go for approved Sony XQD cards, XQD reader, and XQD to SXS adapter:

Also the old orange / silver 32gb sxs cards will work in F5 to a max datarate of somewhere around 300-400mbps. Its ok for 2k XAVC and other codecs, but for HFR you would need at least blue/silver old Sxs pro cards or better cards like XQD or SXS Pro Plus cards.

I have two 64gb SxS-1a (orange & silver) in the Marketplace at $289 each. Bought from Abel NY ten months ago, work perfect. *Will work perfectly at up to 1080/30p & S&Q @ 60fps. Have used them with SR422 lite as well but it's been a while and I dont wont to incorrectly state something.

For a card reader(if you have Thunderbolt on your laptop) I'd recommend the Sonnet Echo Pro.

There are some cases of sxs-1a working for 600mbps and not working. For me they crashed the camera at anything requiring 600mbps so I would be careful with these ones and use at one risk....

Thanks Dennis, can I please confirm with you that this is the right card:

one of the few places that seem to have them in stock in the UK. Thanks.

Yes. That's the card. You need the XQD S card. Not the slower N card.

Best of luck with the F5.

Thanks Ned. So I'll need to get a card reader for it and an SxS card adapter to use it on the F5?
Do you know what the record times are roughly shooting 2K on the 64 db card? Best, Sparky

As Ned points out make sure you get S-Series XQD cards.... part of the benefit in speed is not just so the camera can use it - it comes in handy later for speedy transfers.

You can get a SXS reader but you can also eject the XQD from the adapter and use the $29 XQD reader which is USB 3.0 compatible and again will ensure speedy transfer...

I sold all my SxS-1A cards and replaced with cheaper Sony XQD 180mbs 64gb cards. They have been great with no problems.
