EVA1: Recommended EVF for EVA?

Sorry for any lack of clarity. Ideally, I want to replicate, as nearly as possible, the ergonomics of the Sony FS7 EVF...ie., the LCD viewing screen has a loupe so that the screen can be used as an EVF, or the loupe can be flipped up out of the way.

In addition, i want the mount for this LCD/EVF to be tiltable and orientable on-the-fly (with a tension-mount), and include the ability to change how far forward the LCD/EVF is mounted.

All this without adding ridiculous amounts of weight or added expense or the requirement for additional cheeseplates, top handles, or extra rigging. In other words, I would like to be able to mount directly to the stock top handle.

I have bought the Zacuto EVA1 Z-finder. It provides the tilt-away loupe capability, although it's somewhat heavy. The price isn't cheap but it's not terrible either. Overall it works for my purposes.

The problem is that the supplied bracket does not allow tilting of the screen without tilting the entire attachment bracket, so it is difficult to place and keep it in a comfortable position when operating. Zacuto's soluition is to add 1) A Zacuto top cheeseplate. 2) an Axis mini. 3) either a Zacuto top handle or a 15mm single rail block to attach the Axis Mini 3) a replacement attachment bracket to mate the z-finder to the Axis Mini. This setup would allow the orientability, but adds a lot of unnecessary weight and is very expensive (adds another $500+ on top of the $600 Z-finder).

I prefer to operate with my eye against an eyecup, (which is why I did not opt for a SmallHD focus) but for low angle shots and other situations, it's important to be able to quickly orient the screen and flip the loupe out of the way.

Smallrig appears to have the closest thing to what I am looking for (the 2200, for instance)...but they, like everyone else, seems to have designed for the stock LCD, or to mount a SmallHD or similar 5 inch monitor. I can't find an orientable mounting arm with a connection for the Z-finder.

I should also mention that I do have a Tilta shoulder rig that includes a top plate, that is also a split design. I like it because I can hang my V-lock battery plate on short rails off of the top rear of the camera...but I don't see an easy way to connect a sideways-facing 15mm hole in the front.

Sorry if my discriptions here are unclear. I don't have time to take photos tonight, as I have to prep for tomorrow.

Z-Finder update?

Z-Finder update?

HI Mark,

I'm following up on an old thread, and just wondering if you found any new rigging solutions for the Zacuto Z-Finder. While the Z-Finder is a semi-afforadable loupe, the additional rigging parts add cost and weight. How is the Z-Finder working out for you?
